A Brief Clip of Project 680 Bike Riders

Here is a VERY brief clip of our valiant riders on Saturday’s community bike ride. Thank you everyone!! By the way, this video was uploaded to our Facebook page and then embedded here. We’ve always used YouTube, so this is a bit of a first. If it ends up loading or playing very slowly for you, let us know.

The Last Few Days of the Sock Drive

It’s come down to the last few days of the sock drive and we’re getting ready to celebrate in style as we do a community bike ride THIS Saturday (May 8, 2010). Thank you everyone for your support thus far. We sincerely appreciate involvement from local residents, churches, businesses, City Hall in Rancho Cordova, and organizations.

If you are available for last-minute involvement, let us know right away. We could use a few people to wrap up some loose ends for Saturday’s bike ride, and we could use many people to get last-minute word out to friends, co-workers, family, church members, etc… If you are looking for links to share, you might consider our website page (sock drive page), Facebook event sign-up for bike ride, or our Facebook Fan Page.

Thank so much for your support. Together we ARE making a difference. Nobody is getting paid here. We are all volunteers. We are all advocates for local homeless students. Isn’t it awesome to respond as a community to some of the felt needs of local kids?

“Raiding the Sock Aisle” is Music to our Ears

Erin Attardi is a local Realtor with Lyon Real Estate and we were elated to read her post on Twitter this morning. Here is what Erin said (along with providing the picture below): “Just raided the sock aisle at Target for @Project680 Sock Drive #RanchoCordova #BikingForSocks”

Thank you Erin for your generosity, and thanks for sharing too. We are excited that homeless students will have new warm socks to put on their feet. Together we can make a difference.

An Amazing Ride, An Amazing Community

028

What an awesome community bike ride. Thanks everyone. We’ll unpack all the wonderful things that went on today and share pictures and video in coming days where possible. If you have pictures or video, please email them to info@project680.org (or if you have quite a bit, let’s make other arrangements).

We are so proud of the community. We had probably close to 50 riders. It was phenomenal to see community buy-in for the sake of local students in need. Great work everyone!!! This Shoe Drive / Bike Ride has been a collective team effort and there are many people and organizations to thank. Be on the lookout for some online kudos throughout the next week.

Together we can make a difference. Our community did something wonderful today.

Three One Nine Eight = New Numbers

apisNovo Nordisk, an international company with an office in Rancho Cordova, dropped by 238 pairs of underwear within the past two weeks. Our new grand total for the Project 680 Underwear Drive is now 3,198 pairs of underwear!!!! We don’t expect any more donations, so this is most likely the final number. Thank you Novo Nordisk and Lisa for your leadership in getting together collections.

So many of us these days are feeling the sting of the current economy, but we have managed to find a way to meet a practical need for students deemed homeless by providing new underwear for them. It has been remarkable to see households and organizations reach into their pockets to advocate for these students – even when many of us are struggling financially ourselves. That’s truly the good stuff in life on so many levels. Thank you everyone for your heart to care for local homeless students. Thank you for embracing this practical cause. Thank you for taking a stand for kids in Rancho Cordova and Folsom.

May we continue to learn to become people who regularly and creatively discover practical ways to empower students to rise far above their circumstances.

The Backbone in the Underwear Drive

We want to acknowledge the residents of Rancho Cordova and Folsom who have supported the endeavor to collect at least 680 pairs of underwear for local homeless students within the FCUSD. Residents in both cities have been the backbone of the Underwear Drive and we have seen success thus far due to everyday people chipping in here and there. This economy is not an easy one to say the least, but that has not stopped the flow of compassion from locals.

You may be an anonymous donor who simply went to a drop-off location and gave a few pairs or multiple packs of underwear. You probably even told your family and friends too and helped get them involved. We may never know your name, but we admire your kindness and we appreciate your giving. Thank you.

City Employees Have Big Hearts for the Community

thumbnailWe are incredibly grateful to have so many Rancho Cordova city employees collecting underwear for the P680 Underwear Drive. The last update we received on Friday had just over 200 pairs of underwear collected so far. We are impressed that city workers and staff members have made such a strong effort to support this cause. It’s neat to see that so many employees care deeply about the community they serve from 9-5. Way to go!!!

On behalf of the community, thank you.
