The “Undies Ride” shirt is hot off the press

We mentioned a few days ago that we’d have “Undies Ride” t-shirts for those interested. Well, a handful of riders ordered them and here is what they look like. You can still get one if you’d like, but it’ll have to wait until after the bike ride since our shirt contact cannot make any more on such last-minute notice. If we do a community ride again, we’ll see if we can have more advance notice for a shirt since it’s a nice touch. Whatever the case, check it out below. Cool, huh? See you Saturday at 9am at Hagan Park. For details on the Underwear Bike Ride, see this video and click HERE.

The California Department of Education Rocks!!

We are so thankful for the California Department of Education for their support of Project 680 in the past and also during the current Underwear Drive. Thank you to Debbie who got things started by telling others in her office building about Project 680. All in all, 73 packages (not just pairs) of underwear were collected along with some financial contributions. Thank you employees of the California Department of Education.  You are a huge blessing to students!! Thank you so much for truly caring!! There will be students wearing new underwear because of you, which means students will be more readily equipped to focus on learning.

Thank you Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rancho Cordova

We’ve been really busy, so it’s been hard to update the blog much. That doesn’t mean we’re not thankful though. We wanted to give a quick shout-out to Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rancho Cordova. They’ve been a huge partner this time around for the underwear drive. Not only have they been advertising the undies drive to their guests and staff, they’ve been doing a broadcast storm on their Facebook page. They even had a “biking for undies” shirt designed for their riders (we are having a community bike ride on Saturday for those who don’t know). Big thanks Fairfield Inn & Suites! Thank you for doing something about local issues.

Biking for underwear for homeless students

Project 680 Underwear RideWe are getting excited about the upcoming “Undies Ride” for homeless students in the FCUSD, and we wanted to formally invite you to come along. What is it all about? We’ll get together on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 9am to have a little community bike ride. This will be a great way to get some exercise, connect with locals and support an underwear drive for homeless students.

When? Saturday May 19, 2012 at 9am.

Where? Meet up in the free parking lot at Hagan Park (just outside of the main entrance at 2197 Chase Drive Rancho Cordova CA 95670).

Why? This is a great way to get some exercise, connect with locals and enjoy the last day of our  underwear drive for homeless students.

How Long is the Ride? We’ll have two rides available. One will be a beginner ride and the other will go from Rancho Cordova to Folsom to Bicycles Plus (26 miles total roundtrip).

Who? This is a family-friendly event and a great excuse to mingle with fellow Project 680 supporters. Maybe you could put together a team from the office, church, your neighborhood or a group of friends. This event will also be listed on the “May is Bike Month” website.

What to Bring? We’ll be collecting new underwear for our drive, so please bring some undies for students K-12 in the FCUSD (new ones only – appropriate styles). If money is really tight of course, please just show up (but maybe tell all your friends and family).Additionally, bring a bike, your friends and anything you need for riding (water, granola bars, etc…).

RSVP on our Facebook event page if you wish. Let us know if you have questions. If you’d like to volunteer to help pull this event off too, speak on. Lastly, if you have media contacts, spread the word.

Thank you for your support and advocacy. Let’s ride some bikes now!!

The Foot Drive: Let’s join hands to warm feet

We are very excited to launch the Project 680 “Foot Drive” this coming week and we’ll be looking to team up with many locals to make this a success. Would you be interested in partnering together to care for homeless students? We’re looking for individuals, households, churches, schools, businesses…

Socks:  We will be collecting NEW (not used) socks in all sizes and appropriate styles for boys and girls in grades K-12. Our goal is to collect 680 packages of socks so that each student will be able to have one week’s worth of new socks. We have word that the older students do prefer ankle socks.

Shoes:  Our goal is to collect $680 in Payless Shoe Source gift cards (or checks) in order to put shoes on the feet of students in need. These funds will support both the annual shoe drive in December and immediate needs when they arise. We DO NOT accept actual shoes because kids will pick out a size and style that fits perfectly. Checks can be made out to “Cordova Community Council” our non-profit sponsor. Read more here about why Payless Shoe Source is a great fit for us.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of homeless students in our community. Not only will new socks and shoes meet a very relevant and practical need, but it will also speak volumes to students about how the community is looking out for them. Please consider getting involved.

Download the “Foot Drive” flyer (pdf) HERE.

Pancake Celebration Dinner:  Come to our Pancake Dinner Celebration on Wednesday Nov 9 2011 from 5:00-7:00pm at Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Drive Rancho Cordova CA 95670). We plan to have a celebration meal for those who donated to the Foot Drive, so come drop off your donations and enjoy a free dinner including pancakes, bacon, potatoes and eggs. Yes, this is breakfast for dinner at it’s best. We’ll provide dinner for 100 people, so first come first serve. Thank you for your donations and thank you to the Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Club and Councilmember Ken Cooley for donating all food!!

See www.project680.org/foot for all “drop-off” locations and many ways to get involved. Let us know if you have any questions and “like” us on Facebook to follow the conversations in the Foot Drive.

Let’s do this!!! Thank you everyone for your support!!

Local businesses and families network for underwear

This idea came from Lundquist Appraisal and we LOVE it. Who wants to sign up on the list?

What can it look like for local businesses and households to network together for the sake of homeless students? I wanted to share a vision with you and ask you to consider getting involved.

Project 680 is doing an underwear drive for homeless students, so I figured a group of us could team up to help this important effort by pitching in. If 17 local businesses or familes each donate 25 pairs of underwear and my company donates 100, we’ll hit 500 pairs with ease. This team-approach will help us maximize results and put a big dent in Project 680′s goal to collect nearly 3000 pairs of new underwear by May 11, 2011.

If you do join the team, you’ll get a link below, links on the Project 680 website and SacTube, recognition on the P680 Facebook page, kudos on Twitter (and some other stuff too). Of course, the best thing you’ll get is the knowledge you did something good.

This is a great way to maximize results and do a little good together. Business isn’t just about making money, but about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Let me know if you’re interested in getting involved.
