Shoes

Way to go everyone!!! Well over $4,000 was raised during the Shoe Drive by Project 680. Additionally, The Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce raised $1,000 or VSP Empoyees raised another $1,800. The grand total for all collaborative efforts was close to $7,000. Fantastic work!!!

Project 680 is a grassroots community effort to find relevant and practical ways to support local students in need. We are working closely with the Folsom Cordova District Liaison for Homeless Services to support her yearly shoe drive for needy students, and our goal is to raise $1,500 to cover the cost of 100 pairs of brand new shoes.

During the course of our shoe drive, we will have multiple opportunities available for the community to get involved. We welcome local residents, individuals, households, organizations, churches, and businesses to partner with the Project 680 Shoe Drive.

We are aiming to collect all donations by 11/10/09 if possible, but we will gladly accept donations through all of November. Having funds coming in at an early date is helpful because the District Liaison needs to know how many kids she can invite to the shoe drive, which will take place before the end of the year (invites are determined by how much money comes in).

Please see our FAQ page for additional information and DOWNLOAD a PDF “Shoe Drive” flyer.

Opportunities for Partnering with the Project 680 Shoe Drive:

680-6“One Cap, One Shoe”:  The average pair of shoes at Payless Shoe Source (the vendor for the shoe drive) costs $20.00, so donating $10.00 means that you will be covering the cost of one shoe. We are excited to announce the ”One Cap, One Shoe” campaign where community members will have the opportunity to donate $10.00 for an original Project 680 bottle cap magnet. We are elated to partner with www.BottlecapMagnets.com to offer these handmade and original magnets to the community. They are perfect for the fridge, office or even a gift, and they’ll be available in early October for as long as supplies last. Please see HERE for additional photos of the Project 680 bottlecaps and watch our “One Cap. One Shoe.” video.

Checks, Cash & Gift Cards:  We are accepting checks, cash and Payless Shoe Source gift cards. We DO NOT accept actual shoes because kids will pick out a size and style that fits perfectly. Checks can be made out to “Folsom Cordova Community Partnership” since they are a partner to the shoe drive and they have non-profit status (we are not a 501c3 and can therefore not offer tax write-offs, but they can). Checks can be mailed to 10267 Croydon Way, Rancho Cordova CA 95670. Please call 916-595-3735 with any questions.

680-bike-200-2Project 680 Community Bike Ride:  Come ride with family, friends, co-workers and residents to raise funds for new shoes for needy students in the FCUSD. We will take a 15-20 minute bike ride on Saturday, 11/07/09 from Hagan Park to River Bend Park. We’ll meet in the parking lot of Hagan Park in Rancho Cordova at 2197 Chase Drive (in the FREE parking lot next to Cordova High School). We’ll ride West on paved trails until we get to River Bend Park (next to bridge). Bring a sack lunch if you’d like because we’ll enjoy the park for a while before returning to Hagan Park. This is a short bike ride that anyone can do, whether you ride bikes regularly or haven’t touched a bike in 20+ years. We welcome all ages. We recommend helmets for safety. We also invite folks to meet us at River Bend Park if they wish to not bike at all. Rain or shine, we will ride.

We are suggesting riders donate $5.00 each or a $10.00 donation for an entire household. You can offer more if you’d like. We also encourage riders to get sponsored by family, friends, and co-workers. Or you can put together a “Riding for Shoes” team for your business, organization or with a group of friends. If you are able, let us know you are riding so we can plan best. See www.project680.org/bike for details.

Creative Community:  We strongly encourage P680 partners to dream up creative ways to raise funds, whether that would be selling something on Criagslist or e-Bay (and donating proceeds to Project 680), doing a garage sale, asking the kids if they have ideas, hosting a hot chocolate or lemonade stand, or figuring out something else in line with your time, abilities and passions. We like what this guy did. We know today’s economy is not an easy one, but with a bit of teamwork and some creativity, we can make a meaningful difference.

Link to Us:  We like links and we welcome anyone to link to Project 680 at www.project680.org from your website, blog, Facebook, or any other social networking sites. You are also invited to use any of the images below to link to our website. Project 680 belongs to all of us, so let’s get the word out about the shoe drive.
