Why do we do a shoe drive each year? This is why.

This is why we do a shoe event each year in December and why we are rolling out a “Foot Drive” in just a couple weeks. More details coming very soon about the Foot Drive, but be ready to collect some new socks and Payless Shoe Source gift cards!! What do you think of these shoes? Can you believe some students in the FCUSD are wearing shoes like this?

Thank you for responding to immediate needs

A brief message from the Liaison for Homeless Services to thank a few people who stepped forward recently to help homeless students in the FCUSD. There were two immediate needs posted on the Project 680 Facebook page to help provide several nights of dinner to families who did not have food for the night. Thank you to those who respodned immediately.

457 hygiene items from Progressive

Thank you so much to generous employees at Progressive Insurancein Rancho Cordova for a recent hygiene-item drive for Project 680. Employees collected a whopping total of 457 items such as toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products, band-aids, shampoo, soap and more. Items like this are highly relevant to the District Liaison’s caseload of homeless students. In fact, one of the ways homeless kids often get discovered is from teachers noticing hygiene issues.

We appreciate your generosity and focus on local kids in the FCUSD. This is an incredible blessing. Thank you Progressive Insurance and also Cathy Owen of Progressive for being a tremendous support for this project.

Reaching beyond 3,000 pairs of underwear

We left our previous underwear count of 2,983 in the dust. The new total as of today is 3,205 thanks to an altruistic bunco group (with ties to Cordova Church of Christ), Rancho Cordova Soroptimists and Danielle Bradley’s pre-K class at Brighton Schools in Folsom. Way to go!! Thank you so very much.

The reason Anabelle’s friends and family rock!!!

We shared a few weeks back how a nine-year old named Anabelle decided to ask her family and friends for underwear for homeless kids in lieu of birthday gifts. Well, her birthday fiesta took place yesterday and we are so excited to announce that Anabelle and her friends/family collected a total of 262 pairs of underwear (35 packages). Isn’t that amazing??

Thank you so much to all who participated in this effort. Fantastic job to Anabelle and friends and family!! Thank you for your generosity and for going out of your way to bless local homeless students in the FCUSD. You’ve made a significant contribution to the underwear drive too!!

Recap of “Underwear & Coffee”

Last night we purchased $832.00 worth of underwear thanks to the very generous donations of Folsom High School students, Mama Sues Soul Food Kitchen, Cory & Farah and one other anonymous donor. After the purchase we headed over to Creations Boutique – a new coffee house in Rancho Cordova. This was such a connective and fun mission. Thank you to all who came out. There were some additional undies purchased by City of Rancho Cordova employees (thanks Shannan), Haley and Lundquist Appraisal Company. This purchase will be combined with all other donations that come from the community over the next week. Remember that every pair of underwear helps. We’ll keep going strong until our finale BBQ on May 11 (City Hall in Rancho Cordova – 5-7pm – free hot dogs for the first 100 people). Watch a video below and see photos of last night’s undies raid from Andy Gee.

Underwear & Coffee

Come to “Underwear & Coffee” on Thursday May 5 at 7:00pm. We’ll meet at the Rancho Cordova Walmart on Folsom Blvd & Zinfandel Drive to raid the underwear aisles for the Project 680 Underwear Drive for homeless students in the FCUSD. Then we can grab a coffee or tea afterward for those interested. Come buy some undies or just show up and help us pick some out (we seriously need help). All ages welcome. If you don’t like to shop at Walmart, you can shop elsewhere and meet us for drinks afterward. Or just show up for drinks if you don’t want to shop. Let’s do something good and build friendships. RSVP on Facebook if you wish.

We’ll be sippting tea / coffee / hot cocoa at Creations Boutique after we shop. This is a new business located at 10415 Folsom Blvd, # 104 (next to Mountain Mike’s Pizza). Creations Boutique specifically invited us, and we’re always game to support local businesses. We’d like to try to have our shopping done by 7:30-7:45pm so we can enjoy some hot drinks ASAP.

We have one week left in the underwear drive. In truth, it’s been a bit on the slower side, so we hope to pick up some major momentum over the next week. Let’s do this!!!

Rancho Cordova City Hall’s “Knickers” Drive

Thank you to Rancho Cordova City Hall employees and staff for their support of the Project 680 Underwear Drive. Thank you also to Shannan Loveless at City Hall for her constant efforts to muster the troops.

This image to the right is the Underwear-o-Meter at City Hall so everyone can gauge progress for the goal of collecting 68 packages of underwear drive aka “knickers” drive (thanks to Kerry Simpson for that one). A package of underwear usually has 5 or so pairs.

Way to go City Hall!!! Thank you for caring about kids in your city – seriously!!!
