Two weeks left to gather hoodies for the homeless

We have about two weeks left in the Project 680 Hoody Drive. Let’s keep going strong in our goal to collect 680 hoodies for homeless students in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. We think we have 200 hooded sweatshirts collected thus far (at the most).

Why are we doing this? After talking with the Liaison for Homeless Services, she let us know that kids in her caseload need hoodies, so this latest project makes really good sense.

Three weeks left in the Project 680 Hoody Drive

There are three weeks left in the Project 680 Hoody Drive. It’s been great to see everyone get involved so far, and we’d love to see others embrace the vision too. We definitely have some work left in our quest to collect 680 hoodies for homeless students in the FCUSD. Let’s keep going strong and advocate for homeless kids in this very practical and relevant way. Let us know if you have any questions. Enjoy a video below.

A 6-year old enters the Project 680 Photo Contest

We’d love to see more entries in the Hoody Drive Photo Contest. Remember, this is not a professional contest. Granted, there are some really talented photographers that will take part, but the bulk of us are absolute amateurs and we should have fun with the contest. All you have to do is take a picture anywhere and make sure to have ”Project 680″, “680″ or “www.project680.org” somewhere in the photo. We encourage people to think very creatively how to include the “680″ in the photo. When you take your shots, email up to six of them to info@project680.org and we’ll get them online at www.ranchocordovapost.com/project680. Feel free to post them on Facebook too and/or share them with friends. Spread the word about the Hoody Drive. Together we WILL make a difference in the lives of homeless students in the FCUSD.

The following image was snapped by a six-year old and submitted today. Pretty cool.

Zak Ford and a Project 680 Yard Sale

Today was a good day when it comes to local residents making it happen for the hoody drive. There was a yard sale and lemonade sale in the White Rock area of Rancho Cordova and it raised close to $80. All proceeds will go toward purchasing hoodies. The neat thing too is that donated items for the yard sale came from several households in the neighborhood. Major points for collaboration and creativity in raising some money!!! During the yard sale, Zak Ford, a school board candidate in the FCUSD, dropped by unexpectedly and handed over 12 hoodies. That was a really nice surprise. Way to go Zak and family!!! Thank you for your continual generosity.

Together we can do something about student homelessness. The Hoody Drive is such a practical way to get involved. We encourage all locals to get creative about their involvement too. We realize this economy is not an easy one. With a little creativity and intention though, it’s amazing what we can do.

Keep up the great work!!!

First glimpses of the Project 680 Photo Contest

If you weren’t aware, we are doing a photo contest during the Hoody Drive. This is such an easy way us to show support for the Hoody Drive. All ages are skill levels are invited to participate. This is not some sort of a pro contest. Let’s have fun with this!!!

The Rancho Cordova Post will be hosting images from our contest and we’re very excited. Each person can submit up to six photos. You must include “Project 680 Hoody Drive” or “project680.org” somewhere in the photo. When you take a photo (or groups of photos), email them to info@project680.org and we’ll get them online for you. There are six photo categories, which include:  neighborhood, kids, pets, creative, work and wackiest photo. The “kids” category is really designed for kids to actually take the photo too!!!

Judges will select winners from each category to have their photos displayed at Rancho Cordova City Hall on October 27, 2010 from 4:30-7:00pm at our celebration party. And of course we’ll buy you a hot chocolate too because all winners should drink hot cocoa. Visit www.ranchocordovapost.com/project680 to view all photo entries.

Here are a couple of sample images that came in last week.
