VSP reaches out to homeless students

Thank you Vision Service Plan (VSP) in Rancho Cordova for your support of the Project 680 Shoe Drive over the past several years. VSP employees have gone out of their way to support Project 680, and we really appreciate it. This year alone there were two employee bake sales led by VSP employee Sara Bolchi, and we are so grateful for the $1,284 that came in from these bake sales. 100% of these funds will go directly to purchasing new shoes for homeless students in the FCUSD in both Rancho Cordova and Folsom.

We’re Offering Bottlecap Magnets… Yee-ha!!!

We are very excited to partner with www.BottlecapMagnets.com to offer handmade and original Project 680 bottlecap magnets to the community. We made these caps available previously during our shoe drive and since they were a bit hit, well continue to offer them to the community for our current sock drive. You can get on or before the day of the bike ride on May 8, 2010.

When someone donates $10 for a magnet, 100% of your donation will go toward supporting the needs of the Folsom Cordova District Liaison for Homeless Services. Email or call 916-595-3735 for details.

They are perfect for the fridge, office or even a gift, and theyll be available early next week for as long as supplies last. New Project 680 Video: “One Cap. One Shoe.”

This is big!!! We are very excited to partner with www.BottlecapMagnets.com to offer handmade and original Project 680 bottlecap magnets to the community. We are calling this the ”One Cap. One Shoe.” campaign because when someone donates $10 for one magnet, the cost of one shoe will be covered!!! 100% of your donation will go toward our goal of raising $1,500 to purchase brand new shoes for 100 needy students in the FCUSD. You can get a tax receipt upon request too.

A Project 680 Partnership: Selling Shoes on e-Bay

We received an email today from a man who wants to help support the Project 680 Shoe Drive. Instead of donating cash, a check, or a Payless Shoe Source gift card, he is getting creative about how to pull together some funds to support local homeless students (and we like that). He attached a photo of a pair of brand new shoes he is selling on e-Bay. All proceeds from the sale will be directed toward the P680 Shoe Drive.

This is a really great idea, and it could work well with any marketable product, and even on other websites like Craigslist. It’s nice too because sometimes we have things laying around the house that are valuable to someone else, but all they do is collect dust at home. Like the saying goes, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”

NOTE: Some of you may be asking, “why doesn’t this guy just give the shoes to Project 680 so that we can turn and give them to a needy homeless student?” Good question. Basically, there are two reasons why this won’t work: 1) Both he and I firmly agreed that the color of the shoes may be too closely affiliated with gang-related colors, and that is not something we want to promote for students. Anyone else think that too?; 2) In the past, the District Liaison for Homeless Services has received donations of new shoes, which is a generous gesture, but basically these donated shoes typically sit off to the side because they are not relevant in style or size. Homeless students enjoy picking out brand new shoes anyway because they have their own sense of style. Usually donated shoes do not fit right or they are just not up to today’s fashion standards. Additionally, it is worth noting that Payless Shoe Source, the local vendor for the shoe drive, offers a “buy one pair, get the second pair 1/2 off,” which is a tremendous savings. Moreover, Payless also offers the shoes to the District Liaison for Homeless Services with NO SALES TAX. In essence, this ends up being a tremendous savings for buying a high quantity of shoes, but also a real blessing for the students because they have a very large supply of shoes to choose from. Does that make sense?

By the way, the man who is selling these shoes on e-Bay was a really good sport about this story being posted here (we just wanted you to know because we won’t be posting stories about interactions we have with everyone, especially without permission).

Kudos to a creative man for his idea to support the shoe drive. Way to go!!!

Fridge Art Helps Put Shoes on Homeless Students

There are many ways to partner with us as we endeavor to raise funds to purchase 100 pairs of brand new shoes for homeless students in the FCUSD. And now there is yet one more opportunity to support the Project 680 Shoe Drive. We are very excited to partner with www.BottlecapMagnets.com to offer some original Project 680 bottle cap magnets to the community. These are perfect for the fridge, office or even a gift, and they’ll be available in a matter of weeks for as long as supplies last. We will soon unveil more details about these magnets, what they’ll look like, how to get one, as well as many other creative ways to be involved in the Shoe Drive. For now we wanted you to be in “the know” about this latest development. Woo-hoo!!!

What do Ben Franklin and Lemonade have in common?

Thank you to all who made the lemonade sale a success yesterday. We appreciate the friends, neighbors and passersby who came out to show support and also help out with logistics. Our young entrepeuners were definitely cute too and they did a great job grabbing the attention of anyone passing by. To hear all ten of them bombard cars with “LEMONADE!!!!!” was certainly smile-inducing. They performed their duties well and hopefully they also learned in a little way how important it is to advocate for other children.

Can I get a drum roll please? We are proud to announce that exactly $100.00 was raised to benefit the Project 680 Underwear Drive. A total of $68.51 was donated on-site to our money basket and then to top it off Jeff Dominguez of Exit Realty West was kind to donate $31.49 to bring our grand total to $100.00.

We are so thankful for everybody’s generosity and we are elated to be able to purchase so much new underwear in coming days for local homeless students. We sure had a great time too. It was a blast to mingle with neighbors and friends as well as meet some new folks. Way to go everyone!!!

Lemonade Sale on THIS Saturday – for Project 680

My boys are going to do a lemonade sale on this Saturday morning, April 25, between 9-11am in front of our house in Rancho Cordova at 10267 Croydon Way. Come on by to buy a cup of lemonade from the kids who will be selling. Or if you have any donations, feel free to drop ‘em off. I hope to have some neighborhood kids and friends over too. I’ll brew some coffee inside for the adults. If you have kids and they want to be involved, let me know by commenting on this post. Also, if you have a stellar selling table, speak on. We have something adequate, but if you have something amazing, let’s talk. Proceeds will be directed toward buying new underwear for the Project 680 Underwear Drive. If it is raining on Saturday morning, we’ll cancel. Otherwise we are good to go. Call 916-595-3735 with any questions.
