Thank you to the 35 “underwear” bike riders

Thank you so much to the 35 riders for taking part in the Project 680 bike ride yesterday. We hope you enjoyed yourself, especially if it was your first time on the trails. Thank you for your generous donations of underwear and financial contributions too. Thank you for caring for homeless students in such a practical (and fun) way. A special thanks to Project 680 committee member Jennifer Tartaglia for planning the short ride yesterday. Big kudos to Councilmember Ken Cooley for stopping by as well as FCUSD Board Member Zak Ford and CRPD Board Member Rick Sloan.

We don’t yet have a tally of all that was collected during the underwear drive, but that should come soon this week on our website and Facebook page. All it takes to tackle community issues is for residents to get intentional and focused. Many times it’s just a matter of deciding to be a part of the solution, and then taking small steps in the direction of a solution. Thank you for doing that yesterday in a very practical way.

Let’s keep moving forward. We’ll be announcing good news about the underwear drive soon. And we’ll be gearing up for an emphasis in the Fall too.

The “Undies Ride” shirt is hot off the press

We mentioned a few days ago that we’d have “Undies Ride” t-shirts for those interested. Well, a handful of riders ordered them and here is what they look like. You can still get one if you’d like, but it’ll have to wait until after the bike ride since our shirt contact cannot make any more on such last-minute notice. If we do a community ride again, we’ll see if we can have more advance notice for a shirt since it’s a nice touch. Whatever the case, check it out below. Cool, huh? See you Saturday at 9am at Hagan Park. For details on the Underwear Bike Ride, see this video and click HERE.

Do you want a Project 680 Undies Ride shirt?

Do you want a Project 680 Undies Ride t-shirt? Only $9.70. Sorry for the last-minute notice, but the t-shirt scenario just unfolded yesterday. If interested, contact Dorothy Compton, owner of Bee Embroidered at (916)635-7467. Available while supplies last. Project 680 does not get profit from these shirts. This is something purely for riders if they wish to sport the shirt at the community bike ride on Saturday (or wear it around town any day after). You must contact Dorothy before Thursday morning. If you cannot pick up before Saturday’s Underwear Ride for Homeless Students, we can work that out for you. Just pay in advance and we’ll pick it up (let us know you need a pick-up though, okay). Questions? Contact Ryan at 916-595-3735 and he’ll help you out.

Biking for underwear for homeless students

Project 680 Underwear RideWe are getting excited about the upcoming “Undies Ride” for homeless students in the FCUSD, and we wanted to formally invite you to come along. What is it all about? We’ll get together on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 9am to have a little community bike ride. This will be a great way to get some exercise, connect with locals and support an underwear drive for homeless students.

When? Saturday May 19, 2012 at 9am.

Where? Meet up in the free parking lot at Hagan Park (just outside of the main entrance at 2197 Chase Drive Rancho Cordova CA 95670).

Why? This is a great way to get some exercise, connect with locals and enjoy the last day of our  underwear drive for homeless students.

How Long is the Ride? We’ll have two rides available. One will be a beginner ride and the other will go from Rancho Cordova to Folsom to Bicycles Plus (26 miles total roundtrip).

Who? This is a family-friendly event and a great excuse to mingle with fellow Project 680 supporters. Maybe you could put together a team from the office, church, your neighborhood or a group of friends. This event will also be listed on the “May is Bike Month” website.

What to Bring? We’ll be collecting new underwear for our drive, so please bring some undies for students K-12 in the FCUSD (new ones only – appropriate styles). If money is really tight of course, please just show up (but maybe tell all your friends and family).Additionally, bring a bike, your friends and anything you need for riding (water, granola bars, etc…).

RSVP on our Facebook event page if you wish. Let us know if you have questions. If you’d like to volunteer to help pull this event off too, speak on. Lastly, if you have media contacts, spread the word.

Thank you for your support and advocacy. Let’s ride some bikes now!!

“Biking for Undies” on May 19, 2012

We wanted to give a quick update to let you know we’ll be doing a bike ride on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 9am as a part of the upcoming Underwear Drive. We figured this would be a fun, community-centered and healthy way to raise awareness about student homelessness and gather underwear too. We’ll meet at Hagan Park in Rancho Cordova at 9am and have two rides available. One will be for beginners and the other will go from Hagan Park to Folsom (26 miles). We’ll post more details about the ride and the Underwear Drive too. Yes, this ride will be posted on the “May is Bike Month” website too. We’ve already talked with them.

Thanks for your support. Mark your calendars!!

The Last Few Days of the Sock Drive

It’s come down to the last few days of the sock drive and we’re getting ready to celebrate in style as we do a community bike ride THIS Saturday (May 8, 2010). Thank you everyone for your support thus far. We sincerely appreciate involvement from local residents, churches, businesses, City Hall in Rancho Cordova, and organizations.

If you are available for last-minute involvement, let us know right away. We could use a few people to wrap up some loose ends for Saturday’s bike ride, and we could use many people to get last-minute word out to friends, co-workers, family, church members, etc… If you are looking for links to share, you might consider our website page (sock drive page), Facebook event sign-up for bike ride, or our Facebook Fan Page.

Thank so much for your support. Together we ARE making a difference. Nobody is getting paid here. We are all volunteers. We are all advocates for local homeless students. Isn’t it awesome to respond as a community to some of the felt needs of local kids?
