A Closer View of Bottlecap Magnets (coming in 3 days)

We are elated to partner with www.BottlecapMagnets.com to offer handmade and original Project 680 bottlecap magnets to the community. We are excited to announce the ”One Cap. One Shoe.” campaign where community members will have the opportunity to donate $10.00 for an original Project 680 bottlecap magnet as a way to provide shoes for needy kids. Why $10? Read below.

“One Cap. One Shoe”: The average pair of shoes at Payless Shoe Source (the vendor for the shoe drive) costs $20.00, so donating $10.00 means you will be covering the cost of one shoe. Way to go!!! Bottlecap Magnets are sealed with a clear and smooth surface similar to glass and each is handmade. They are perfect for the fridge, office or even a gift, and they’ll be available early next week for as long as supplies last. The great thing too is that a magnet on the fridge or at the office can be a sweet reminder of the good work you did by providing shoes for needy students. In case you wondered too, we are glad to give you a tax receipt for your kind donation.

Enjoy some images below so you can get a good idea what these stylin’ magnets look like. Thank you for your support.

BARC is on Board as a Partner

Barc LogoWe are proud to welcome BARC on board as a partner for the Project 680 Community Bike Ride. “BARC” stands for “Bicycling Advocates for Rancho Cordova.” In addition to recruiting some of their members for the ride and possibly doing some other networking, we have asked BARC to give a few safety tips to all of us immediately before we hit the trails on November 7th.

Even though we are doing a short ride that mostly anyone can do (3-4 miles one way – and then back the same distance after relaxing at River Bend Park), it’s still important to ride safely. On that note, we do recommend the use of a bike helmet for our ride. Don’t worry, we won’t bring a heavy hand or enforce any sort of helmet rule.  We’re just saying we like people and we are fans of planning for safety.

For more information on Bicycling Advocates for Rancho Cordova, contact Bruce Oulrey at boulrey@comcast.net or (916) 207-4012

Thank you BARC. We appreciate you.

The Money Details: Checks, Cash & Gift Cards

Project 680 will accept checks, cash and Payless Shoe Source gift cards to support the Project 680 Shoe Drive. Checks can be made out to “Folsom fccp-logoCordova Community Partnership” since they are a partner to the shoe drive and they have non-profit status (we are not a 501c3 and can therefore not offer tax write-offs, but they can). We sincerely appreciate Folsom Cordova Community Partnership (FCCP) and their constant support of students in the Folsom Cordova School District. FCCP has some truly incredible and effective programs in our community.

We will NOT accept donated shoes because students at the shoe drive event (it’ll take place before the end of the year) are given the opportunity to select new shoes that fit their feet perfectly as well as compliment their sense of style. Donated shoes may not fit a student, and that defeats the purpose. We sincerely appreciate people’s generosity, but we cannot accept shoes.

Why are you raising funds anyway? This project is a bit different for us because in the past we have never had to raise money, but only collect items like socks or underwear. Since the District Liaison uses Payless Shoes Source for her yearly shoe drive, and the shoe drive does not have the money it needs this year to provide for needy students, the most relevant thing for us to do was raise money to help underwrite the cost of new shoes. The shoe drive is a yearly event that the Folsom Cordova School District Liaison for Homeless Services plans and pulls off. This year funds have not come in like they have in years past, so we wanted to do something about that. Ultimately, if we do not raise money, kids do not get new shoes. It’s that simple.

Doesn’t raising money limit who can participate? We don’t think so. Some people will be able to donate with ease, while others may need to drum up a little creativity. We are encouraging individuals, households, organizations, churches, businesses and groups of friends to find creative ways to get involved. We really believe we can find solutions to problems by teaming up with others and thinking out of the box. We encourage groups of people to brainstorm together about how to raise money. What if your kids dreamed something up? What if your household sold something on Craigslist and donated the proceeds to the shoe drive? What if you didn’t eat out for lunch a couple of times during the month and then directed your savings toward the shoe drive? What if you did a lemonade sale, garage sale, hot chocolate sale, or sold some sort of artistic craft you made? What if you gave up one item per week in your grocery shopping and instead directed those few dollars to shoes? What if a group of friends decided to find a creative way to raise enough money for 3 shoes ($30 essentially)? What if you asked some people at church or the office to consider getting involved in some way with you?

Why are you using Payless Shoe Source exclusively for the shoe drive? The Folsom Cordova School District Liaison for Homeless Services has used Payless Shoe Source for a number of consecutive years to promote a shoe drive for kids in need in the FCUSD. Using Payless has a huge advantage because of their “buy 1, get the second pair ½ off”, but they also offer their shoes TAX FREE to the District Liaison for Homeless Services. This is an enormous savings.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or see the Shoe Drive FAQ Page. Thank you so much for your support!!!
